Loud & Clear

Disability, inclusion, and who gets a fair chance at work.

Workplace policies, technology, and leadership decisions shape whether disabled people are hired, retained, and able to advance. Loud & Clear examines those decisions, shows where workplace systems break down, and identifies what employers can do next.

Written for HR leaders, employment professionals, legal and risk teams, technology decision-makers, and leaders responsible for turning inclusion into practice.

The Cost of Intentional Chaos

On September 23, a federal judge erased the community integration requirements from the Department of Health and Human Services’ 2024 Section 504 rule, at the federal government’s own request. Section 504, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and Olmstead remain law. Two days earlier, the rule requiring federal contractors to ask applicants and employees whether they have a disability ended, along with the seven percent hiring goal.

This issue also examines accessibility barriers in automated interviews, the threat to community integration, the expansion of agentic AI in recruiting, and eight controls employers can use to determine whether a deaf candidate can complete their hiring process.

Inside this issue

  • What the court erased in Texas v. Kennedy, and what it did not
  • Why automated interviews continue to exclude deaf candidates
  • Where accountability breaks down in agentic recruiting systems
  • Eight controls for an interview process a deaf candidate can complete
